I'm one of those delusional people who likes my house to look like nobody lives there, however people do live there, including three kids, so it's a pretty impossible task!
One thing I do focus on is storage solutions that are seamless, attractive and most of all functional.
Something that many clients struggle with is finding a storage solution for kids toys; not only do they seem to multiply overnight, they are often quite unsightly and better off neatly packed away!
So let's get into my top storage solutions for kids' toys!

Storage that fits your space
Every home is different, so the best toy storage solutions are those that work with the space you already have.
Under-stairs storage is ideal for hiding toys away while keeping them close to main living areas.
Low cupboards or sideboards in living rooms allow toys to be stored discretely without turning it into a playroom.
Vertical storage (tall units or wall shelving) is perfect for smaller homes where floor space is limited.

Open storage vs. Closed storage
Open storage such as shelves and cubbies encourages children to access and return toys independently (well, in theory!).
Closed storage such as cupboards and drawers keeps visual clutter to a minimum which is ideal for a shared family space.
A mixture of both probably works best. Everyday toys out in the open and large, unsightly items hidden away!
Baskets, boxes and labels
Sometimes the most simple solutions are the most effective.
Use baskets of fabric boxes to group similar toys together.
Clear or labelled (or both) containers help children know where things belong.
Soft baskets are safer for younger children and easy to move around.

Furniture that does double duty
Multi-functional furniture is a game-changer for families.
Storage benches provide seating while hiding toys inside.
Ottomans with lift-up lids are great for quick tidy-ups at the end of the day.
Beds with built-in drawers work great in kids' bedrooms for toys, games and books.
Here's a free piece of advice - Rotate toys to reduce clutter
This is something I do and I swear the kids don't even notice. I store some toys away and rotate them every few weeks. Not only does it reduce clutter, but it feels like the kids are getting new toys every time because they literally forgot they had them!
